Free tutorial to build a craftsman style frame.
About Project
Last summer, my family and I took a little camping trip to Seward, Alaska.
It was a beautiful drive
And I'm still mad at myself that we didn't stay longer.
While strolling the quaint fishing village, I stopped into Brown and Hawkins and bought a few prints to remember our trip.
And I finally got around to framing them!
For a rustic camping trip, I wanted an equally rustic frame. So I put together this simple frame reminiscent of a craftsman style window casing.
I'm still debating if I should add key hooks or not to the bottom. But whatever the outcome, we are so thrilled with this cute frame on our little print. We've had so many compliments on the frame, I wanted to share the plans with you. So you can frame your favorite memories too!
As much as I love the frame, I know the finish is what really made it pop. Don't worry - I'm working on a tutorial for that too! And it's not step by step. It's more like one step! So stay tuned for that too!
My print measured 8x12. To adjust the frame for your print, do this:
1. Cut the two side 1x3s to the height of your print. (mine is 12")
2. Cut one 1x2 and one 1x3 to the width of your print PLUS 5 inches (mine was 8 + 5 = 13")
3. Cut one 1x2 and one 1x3 1" longer than the measurement from step 2 (mine was 13" x 1" = 14")
And then just assemble as I do in this plan! Easy stuff! Ready to build? Of course, the plans follow!
PS - If you live in the Atlanta area, stop by and say hello! I'm doing a workshop at the Home Depot and would love to meet you! If you ordered a book, bring it! Looking forward to meeting you!
